Irish Cement Kiln 3 Project - Overall responsibility
for managing design and procurement of all civil, structural and
building elements. Services included feasibility, planning
application and EIS, fire certificate application, detailed design,
construction supervision and cost control. We were also appointed
to act as the Project Supervisor Design Process on this project
from the design stage through to the end of construction stage on
site.
Mott MacDonald Ireland provides a multidisciplinary
one-stop-shop with all of the necessary skills in-house to deliver
industrial development projects from site selection and concept
through planning and permitting, design and construction, to final
commissioning.
Concept
Evaluating potential development sites is one of the first
areas where we can assist our clients assessing by available
utilities, high level masterplanning, environmental and planning
constraint studies, geotechnical and contamination investigations
for example.
We can also conduct feasibility and front end engineering studies
to assist in establishing in the scope and viability of
projects.
Our experience in working with local authorities and utility
providers allows us to add value through our understanding of the
needs of both provider and consumer.
Planning and Permitting
The regulatory systems impacting on industrial developments are
extensive. We have long and successful experience of bringing
projects through both the conventional planning and the strategic
infrastructure legislation, as well as the many environmental
licencing requirements which may apply.
Building Regulations and particularly fire safety introduce further
complexities to the design of industrial buildings, and we can work
with the relevant authority to arrive at practical solutions to the
issues that arise.
Design
Many industrial buildings are bespoke enclosures of the
processes they contain, and therefore need to have a form that is
driven by the logic of the process as well as meeting environmental
and aesthetic requirements.
Internal environments may be extreme, for example in terms of
temperature or chemical exposure or perhaps classifi ed clean areas
may be required. Noiseand energy management may also dictate the
type of building enclosure. Special foundations for equipment may
be required. All of these aspects fall within our experience, and
our clients can draw on the experience of our industrial architects
and in-house experts to arrive at appropriate solutions.
We are familiar with the provision of specialist utilities, for
example within the pharmachem and food industries, as well as the
normal drainage, water and power systems, including CHP. Treatment
for both water supply and wastewater is another area in which we
can provide specialist designs and advice.
Construction
There are many models for the procurement of the construction
process and we can advise on the relative merits of these, and
develop the appropriate contract documents. Our in-house cost
consultants can assist with budget development from the early
stages and monitor and control it during construction.
We can provide varying levels of construction support and
management to suit each client’s requirements, and act as their
representative in the administration of the contract.
Commissioning
The testing and commissioning of a completed facility is
another area in which we can be of assistance. While many of our
clients will manage this process themselves, we can provide
certification of tests for external bodies such asthe Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) for example.
We can assist with the preparation of commissioning plans and with
verificationand certification. Our validation specialists can
deliver DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ at all the stages of a project.
